Hartfield

Hartfield, about 8-miles east of Tunbridge Wells, was the home of A.A. Milne hartfield estate agents letting agency image.(1882–1956), author of the Winnie the Pooh books. He lived at Cotchford Farm and many of his books include local landmarks. Cotchford Farm was later owned by the Rolling Stone Brian Jones who was discovered dead in a pool on the property in 1969.

The local church is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin. The village boasts three local pubs; the Anchor Inn; Gallipot Inn; and Haywagon Inn.

One and a half miles north of Hartfield is Bolebroke Castle from which Henry VIII hunted wild boar and deer at the nearby Ashdown Forest. He also was believed to have courted Anne Boleyn from here, she lived close by at Hever Castle near Edenbridge.

Hartfield had a railway station on the Three Bridges to Tunbridge Wells Central Line until it was closed in 1967. Most of the former trackbed is now part of the walkers and cyclists.

Nowadays, the nearest station is five miles away at Ashurst Station from which there is a service every 30-minutes at peak times to London Bridge with a journey time of 55-minutes. There is an hourly bus service that connects the village with Crawley, East Grinstead and Tunbridge Wells. The journey time to Tunbridge Wells is about 20-minutes.

Winnie the Pooh

There is a shop in the village dedicated to all things connected with the Winnie the Pooh stories - it claims to be the home to the world's largest selection of "Pooh-phernalia". If you have time for ‘A Little Something' you will find inside Pooh Corner the Piglit's Tea Room and Garden where you can enjoy a ‘Smackeral' or two; with cream-teas, cakes, savoury snacks, fruit juices, coffee and teas.

Pooh Corner gives information about the real Winnie-the-Pooh locations and the famous Poohsticks Bridge. It is open from 9am to 5pm Mondays to Saturdays. On Sundays and Bank Holidays the shop is open from 10.30am to 5pm.
