Fordcombe is a small village covered by Sevenoaks District  Council six miles west of fordcombe estate agents letting agency image.Tunbridge Wells in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  The village is on the Wealdway, a popular ramblers footpath connecting Gravesend in the north and Eastbourne in the South.

The local pub, the Chafford Arms, is a well-liked halt on the way for ramblers needing a break from their exertions across the North Downs and serves local real ales as well as afternoon cream teas.

The village church, St. Peter’s, was built in 1848 by Field Marshal Henry Hardinge the first Viscount Hardinge who was a British field marshal and became Governor General of India. Sir Henry lived at the South Park estate at Penshurst and is buried at the church.

In the twelfth century there were two watermills in the village. The Upper Mill was removed in about 1300 and as a result the ford became deep and impassable. In about 1860, paper from Chafford Mills was used to print the first postage stamps for Jamaica and later for The Transvaal and the Falkland Islands.  Paper for Bank of England notes was also produced along with early photographic papers.

In 1834 the Princess Victoria with her mother, the Duchess of Kent, visited the mill for several hours. By 1861 the mill provided employment to over 80-people. The mill closed in 1913 and was demolished in 1930.

The local Church of England Primary School accepts children aged 4 to 11-years of age.

The nearest major shopping centre is Tunbridge Wells a few miles to the east, and this is where the main line train service to London runs from.
