Yalding is 10 miles north-west of Tunbridge Wells and six miles south-west of yalding estate agents letting agency image.Maidstone at a point where the Rivers Teise and Beult join the River Medway. The village is located in an area governed by Maidstone Borough Council.

There are three bridges in the village; the Twyford Bridge (derived from ‘twin ford’, where there was originally a double crossing of the two rivers) is one of the finest medieval bridges in the south-east of England. In Saxon times the village was called Twyford although most of the property was close to the crossing. The name was recorded in the Domesday Book as the Saxon manor of Hallinges owned by Aldret, though it was known as Ge-aeldinge (‘old village’). By 1642 this had mutated to Yaldinge.

During the heydays of the Wealden iron industry, Yalding was one of the principal shipment points on the River Medway for cannon.

More recently, Yalding was a favourite of Edith Nesbit, author of The Railway Children. The attractions of the Medway are described by Edith in two of her novels Salome and the Head and The Incredible Honeymoon.
'The Medway just above the Anchor (at Yalding, Kent) is a river of dreams. The grey and green of willows and alders mirror themselves in the still water in images hardly less solid-seeming than their living realities. There is pink loosestrife there, and meadow-sweet creamy and fragrant, forget-me-nots wet and blue, and a tangle of green weeds and leaves and stems that only botanists know the names of.'

'If you go to Yalding you may stay at the George and be comfortable in a little village that owns a haunted churchyard, a fine church, and one of the most beautiful bridges in Europe.'
Yalding Station provides connections to Paddock Wood, in about seven minutes, in one direction and Strood (via Maidstone West) in the other. Tonbridge is about 15-minutes away.

The village primary school is St Peter's and St Paul's Church of England Primary School. At secondary level, the school is in the Mascalls Comprehensive catchment area.
