Southborough & High Brooms
« Back to Local Guides for Kent
Although Southborough is a modern town that has rapidly expanded in the last century, if you visit it you will see several buildings that have a history going back 500 years. Cricket and cricket-ball manufacturing have long associations with Southborough, cricket ball making was once a cottage industry, but all that remains now is the tradition of Sunday matches played on Southborough Common - 83 acres of beautiful common land that is fully available for public recreation.
You’ll find many opportunities to enjoy the countryside locally, the High Weald Walk passes through and there are many public footpaths and bridleways. You’ll find details of the Southborough Walk here.
If you enjoy horse riding, Honnington established in 1973, is one of the largest riding centres in the South East of England and is located on an 850 acre farm. And for cycle enthusiasts, there’s an old established cycling club, Southborough & District Wheelers with plenty of activities to keep you fit.
If you are less energetic, you can easily enjoy the shops and nightlife just down the road in Royal Tunbridge Wells.
High Brooms Station serves Southborough, with services to Charing Cross and the City taking less than an hour. Click Royal Tunbridge Wells to find out more about transport links to London, Gatwick and Heathrow.
